Doctors & Staff

Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Cornerstone Vision Center a proud provider of vision care products and services in Riverton.

Dr. Daniel Howells

In ninth grade, Dr. Howells saw his eye doctor for an eye exam. While there he interviewed his optometrist to fulfill a requirement for a Boy Scout’s merit badge. After that interview, Dr. Howells told his father that he would like to become an optometrist. In 2006 Dr. Howells’ dream came true.

Dr. Daniel C. Howells is a Pacific University College of Optometry graduate in the year 2006. He started his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah and finished a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Science from Pacific University in Oregon. He has an interest in pediatric vision care and loves to see little patients in the office. Dr. Howells has a background working in an ophthalmology office with patients with diabetes, cataracts, macular degeneration, and surgical pre/post-operative care. Dr. Howells and his wife have six children, five boys, and a little girl. In their spare time, Dr. Howells and his wife love to take their kids rock climbing, biking, kayaking, or anything outdoors.

Dr. Howells’ wife was originally from New York and the 7 years spent there had been wonderful. In the seven years in New York, the Howells family made many lifelong friends and missed them terribly. However, in the summer of 2013, an opportunity to return to Utah presented itself. Cornerstone Vision Center in the Riverton / Herriman Utah area was opened that fall.

Dr. Howells had been looking at Herriman since 1996 when his sister Michelle moved to the small country village. Now the thriving city has emerged and the growth has been unprecedented. Dr. Howells and his family are coming home. The mountains, the people, the friends, and the family are a welcome sight.

Dr. Jeffrey Western

Around his teenage years, Dr. Western realized he wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. After having glasses and contacts himself since the age of 10, he decided to pursue the path of optometry. Dr. Jeffrey Western graduated from Midwestern Arizona College of Optometry in 2022. He achieved his Bachelor of Exercise Science at Brigham Young University in Provo. He has an interest in ocular disease, specialty contact lens, and providing first-class ocular care with a smile. Though graduating recently, Dr. Western already has a couple years of patient care under his belt, and experience working with: keratoconus, glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes, and various other ocular diseases.

Additionally, Dr. Western participated in an internal school rotation where he engaged in various clinics including ophthalmology, dry eye, glaucoma, retinal disease, low vision, traumatic brain injury, prosthetics, pediatrics, and vision therapy.

Dr. Western is originally from Southern California and met his wonderful wife in Utah while attending BYU. They have a beautiful little girl and love creating memories as a family. Dr. Western served a 2-year mission for his church in Mexico City, Mexico, and is fluent in Spanish and loves opportunities to converse in it. In his free time, Dr. Western is an avid book reader, sports enthusiast, and culinary scientist. He loves spending time with his family, serving in his church, and very importantly, providing his patients with excellent eye care while trying to make them smile! His wife and he decided after optometry school to leave the heat of Arizona, avoid the costs of California, and return to Utah to set down roots, create memories, and practice optometry!
